On 21 November 2007, SRS Technologies released version 3.0 of
our Electronic Document Security
software product designed from the ground up to
meet rigorous U.S. Government security requirements when National
Security Information could be compromised by hidden data in electronic
documents. Specifically, it was designed to help the user conduct a
"100% reliable review" of the electronic document. Because this product
was designed to meet Government standards, this product will be useful
for business and commercial applications where the protection of a
company's proprietary information and a client's private and personal
data is of paramount importance. This product is fully capable of
protecting the most sensitive information for the U. S. Government, so
this program will exceed all commercial expectations and is superior to
other similar programs currently available on the commercial market.
This product is intended to help the honest user to do their job
better with fewer mistakes that could compromise security. It is not
intended to catch the malicious insider who is intentionally trying to
deceive security protocols. This new program is called Document
Detective.
Document Detective currently works on the following file types:
Review and Flatten (remove hidden data)
- Microsoft Word documents and templates
- Microsoft Excel workbooks and templates
- Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, shows and templates
- Rich Text Files (Microsoft Word 2.0)
Review Only
- Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML)
- Web Archives (MHT & MHTML)
- Extensible Markup Language (XML)
- Text files (TXT, CSV, ASC, etc.)
- Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF)
Document Detective capabilities include:
- Facilitates 100% reliable human review
- Regular Expression keyword scanner
- File Explorer type interface to browse document contents
- Extract and examine embedded objects
- Delete embedded objects or convert them into safer object
types
- Analyzer identifies structures that are potentially dangerous to
security
- Terminates Reviewing (tracked Changes) and removes Reviewing data
- Removes document fragments
- Removes Macros
- Removes Metadata
- Plug-ins to integrate with Microsoft Office
- Redaction tool to preserve format
Document Detective adds a new toolbar to Word, PowerPoint and Excel
to help the user to identify and correct problems found by Document
Detective. The toolbar adds the following functions:
- Advanced Go To - locates objects by type and number
- Security Markings – Adds Government standard classification
markings to a document
- Compress Object – reduces the resolution of resized images,
removes cropped areas of images, and converts embedded OLE objects into
images
- Auto Compress – similar to Compress Object, but with no user
selection
- Flatten Document – Performs and Auto Compress on every object in
the document
- Security Scan – Sends the document to Document Detective after
removing Tracked Changes, fragments, macros and Meta data
- Redaction - Remove text of images and replaces them with black
rectangles
Document Detective also includes an ability to batch
process large volumes of files. The same basic engine is used, but the
Graphical User Interface (GUI) is suppressed. Summary files are
generated for each file processed, and a results file is built with
links to the summary files. The Document Detective batch process can:
- Process multiple files
- Recursively process sub directories
- Exclude files
